January Beginnings

As still bare branches
Cast purple shadows--silence
Breaks when crows caw life.

On the first morning of the challenge I sat by my dining room window watching the morning rise. Winter gray skies and a certain stillness kept me enraptured until the cawing of crows signaled the beginning of a new day.

I used painted and stitched paper-cloth to construct this piece.

Kimberly, The haiku and your piece complement each other so well.

I really like this piece Kimberly.. isn't paper-cloth just so much fun! I like the abstracted crows.. it fits your Haiku perfectly.

Thanks Elljay and Carole! I started making paper-cloth in the summer and have been transformed by it. It's really fascinating to work with. I'm still playing with it to discover new possibilities.

I love this Kimberly. Is the background painted as one piece, or are the mountains a seperate piece?

I love the organic shapes and colors of this. Your haiku is lovely, and your abstract expression of it really compliments your words. I have done a small amount of paper cloth; your work makes me want to do more! thanks.

Hi Cherie, The mountains are a piece of somewhat distressed tissue paper that I applied to the background using gel medium.

This truly looks like winter to me, Kimberly - those bare trees, your color choices, and those irritating old crows. Or maybe your crows aren't as irritating as mine?
