March: "Sunshine"

As usual, I had several attempts at composing this moth's haiku, using the word prompt of sunshine.
I finally settled for

" Molten copper ballIn cerulean blue sky;Surf tumbling on shore."

My A4 sized quiltlet was formed with the background of Lutradur bonded to blue homespun.
Using a card stencil I laid Expandapaint in the shape of a corona; heat treated it to get dimensional effect and then gilded it.
Using silk fabric and Angelina film I created the "ball"...the actual sun.
Next was to applique the sea tumbling on the white shores.

Haiku: (Romantic ) LOVE

After attempting "PATRIOTIC" Love,
I thought that I would tackle "Romantic" Love
and finally settled for two versions:

a.... Love's sweet melodies
Bliss filled days and nights
Valentines for ever.

b... New love flourishes
Blissful days and nights
Soulmates forever
.

Using a piece of pink Lutradur, highlighted with Lumiere Pearlescent Magenta paint as the background,
I appliqued three solid floral hearts and one heart outline to the background.
I also painted with the same Lumiere a structured heart shaped card.
Trailing over the open heart is a green vine trimming.

Using a gold ink pen I added the two haiku----one in the quilting lines above the heart,
the other inside the large heart.
Unfortunately, the gold writing did not photograph clearly.
I also include the scribble page of my journal, where I played with words.

February Haiku

I chose to interpret "love" as love of one's country:
Patriotism.

January Beginnings

A journal sized fabric and fibre "quilt" to accompany another attempt at the January Haiku themes of "Beginnings"
I based my work on a photo attributed to Pawel Achtel of a coral reef spawning (coral) polyps to ensure new growth on the reefs.

Tropic seas dreaming
Under full moon coral spawns
Life begins anew.

Measuring 8.5 by 11 inches and in a landscape format, I used Xpandaprint to represent the massed formation of creamy white coral.
(Imagine this as being viewed in the flash of a camera!)
Six strands of DMC embroidery thread and Anchor # 8 crochet thread was employed to add more texture.
The green shadowed coral was (hand) needle felting.

Small sequins and pearl beads were used to represent the coral spawn, but I feel that yet many more need applying to represent the millions of spawn floating on the tide.

(Beginnings) Fire-storm

Fire-storm

Summer fire storms
Land lies scorched and blackened.
Rains revitalize.

Summer flooding rains
Crops rotting in fields of mud
Regroup and rebuild.
